A collection of videos taken while on adventures in "Grampa's Jeep", my 1948 Willys CJ2A that first came into our family as my uncle’s high school ride and then became my Grampa's hunting rig. That's where I first encountered it as a kid where I and many of my siblings and cousins went on many imaginary adventures, sitting in the jeep and pretending. See how I got Grampa's Jeep back into running condition in my build thread here: www.thecj2apage.com/forums/grampas-cj2a_topic16836.html

You should find a 3A-M-38 transfer case crossmember, it is a must better design where it bolts to the frame. Does not hang down and get bent up on rocks plus your new frame is made for it
Thanks. I'm sticking with my 2a crossmember. I have beefed it up and my cross member skid plates hang from it.
It always feels good to have things going back together, "Over the hump", so to speak. At the rate you're going it won't be long. I feel your pain on those spring bushings, I swapped the Penalty Box over to aftermarket poly last year. I can't wait to see Grampa's Jeep back in action !!
Thanks Timm.
Great video. I am always amazed at the changes made from the gpw/mb thru 2a / 3a m38
I ended up using a hack saw to cut through the bushing then pealed it out.
Looking good!
I feel your pain with the chassis bushes . I’ve had a job and a half myself getting those out on my series landrovers over the years ♥️🇬🇧🇺🇸♥️
No. Tricky photageaphy. 😊
Was that a crack in your new frame at master cylinder?
Loving the build update Stan !!! I’m picking what driveline I’m going to run in my CJ6 build at the moment? I’d be putting a tack weld or 2 on the washer that’s holding your brake pedal in place, especially after watching you drive! I personally think your old chassis belongs in the Jeep Hall of Fame ! Looking forward to your next update
Tack weld is probably a good idea. God luck on your project, and thanks for watching.
I am learning alot watching you break things down and putting it back together.
Thanks for watching.
hi Stan use a propane torch and heat the bushing from the inside it should turn a bit red...then let it cool down...this should shrink it a bit and it will drive right out...the heating and cooling will also break the rust seal that is holding it in place...unless it is a threaded in bushing....i'm not sure if they used those on the m38's but they might have....i just looked at KaiserWillys site part number A546 and it looks like it is just pressed in.
Thanks. This one is threaded. I'll get it eventually.
Wow looking great there Stan. Love the progress 👍👍👍. Definitely easier to check all the fluid levels with the body off. You probably will have some customizing to do for the radiator mounting as well when you get there. I am sure you'll make it work
Thanks
Where did you find the front engine mounting plate? I need one
I got it from Army Jeep Parts.
Good to see you back out in the shop again that seems pretty familiar for me to see long live grandpa’s jeep
Thanks brother.
Nice update. It'll be interesting to hear if that flywheel can be saved.
Got it back today. It looks good. I’ll try to include something on it in my next video.
Big thumbs up Stan and thanks for sharing this process of resurrection of Grampa's Jeep! We love it! Gratitude! Looking forward to your adventures.
Thank you!
Nice work
Fiber gear I new it was something. Are you going to check the bearings while it is out now is a good time if they are a little loose Jeep made 1under bearings if one could still get them. That oil hole as you say will help. Looking good. Paul
Cool Stan💪😎
Interesting how they made room for access to fuel pump bolt.
Good info on the oil squirters
Progressing very quickly, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Progressing nicely!
Did you change anything to the oil pan or pickup to compensate for the extreme angles you guys are running at?
The stock oil pick up in the L134 Go Devil engine is floating, so it handles steep angles pretty well. No changes required. I have added extra armor to the oil pan.
@Stan. Is the M38 frame the same material thickness as 3A frame? Other than the gun mount is there any additional frame bracing M38 vs 3A?
That looks like a lot of work Stan. After three years I finally got my old cj5 on the road again. Rebuild the 232 straight 6, the transmission and transfer case. She runs good. Looks like you're going to get Grandpas jeep fit for the trail again. Happy wrenching. 😊
Looks good. I would guess in the spirit of Granpa's Jeep that flywheel should cut and go back to work as-is 👍😁.
Stan, I see your upgrading to a winch. Did you find that Unicorn 6v winch or are you going to a 12v system?
Brennan’s Garage can special order 6 volt winch motors for the Bellevue style early winches. If I ever get mine installed and working, it will be one of the first active in the wild.
Great tip!!
We aren’t going to recognize Grandpa’s Jeep when you are done. If stone chips are the best trophies, Grandpa’s Jeep belongs at the Olympics winning Gold!!!! Thanks for keeping us motivated to work on our own Jeeps❤
Hah. Just look for rusty crusty one with the cool winch bumper.
Love watching your videos , I thought Grampa's jeep was invincible, lol . Anyway, I have an out of context question. What type of gravel do you have in your yard? There are no footprints on it.
Thanks Suzy. This is what I have in our overflow parking area. I like it because it doesn't show dirt like white gravel, and it packs pretty tight. Scroll down the page to the "black slag." www.sandeessoilandrock.com/products/rock/
Amazingly tough vehicle!
Kamakazi jeep frame. Lol
"Here's a new thing I discovered..." Hilariously dry and understated as usual Stan. 🤣
Getting all grumpy about it won’t fix it.

Looks like you have some grate help don't forget to install a new timing gears and chine that will wake the old gal up. Paul
Thanks for checking in, Paul. No timing chain on this rig, only. Gears. I'll take a good look at them when I get them apart.
@@Grampas-jeep After I sent that it donned on me to look in the book and sure enough gears. It's the thought that counts not old age I just like to help if I can. Paul
Hi Stan ,I really enjoy your channel! Grandpa’s jeep is going to be great when you’re done! I have a 1977 cj5 that I have gone through from the frame up. It’s getting close to being completed. Good luck with your project and keep the videos coming! Ken
Thanks, Ken. Good luck on your project.
Stan your Jeep is the coolest and glad you actually use it! Love Grandpa’s Jeep!
Thank you. And thanks for watching.
Getting a bit done, motor looks great, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Awesome progress! You are moovi'n right along. That sweet winch mount has really strengthened the front end of the new frame. Looking forward to Grampa's Jeep being better than ever, but still really close to stock. It'll be so nice and tight, you'll have to re-learn your driving HaHa!!
Thanks Timm.
you may find when you add your winch that those crown front leaf springs will flatten out...this happened on our CJ3B when we added a 9500 amazon winch (about 65lbs).
Thanks for checking in. I have worried a little about the extra weight.. We shall see.
This axe has been in our family for over 100 years. Handle was replaced 10 times, the head only 4 times.
Hah! Point taken. Thanks for checking in.
@@Grampas-jeep Wish I had grandpa's Jeep. Mom and Dad went a courting in it.
do you know what caused the frame to break? Pure metal fatigue? Looks pretty dramatic!
This Jeep takes a beating and that frame is 75 years old.
Good evening sir, I’m enjoying the videos! I love the Jeep flat fenders. Sir while you have the Jeep apart, please, please, install a 4 speed granny tranny. It will help your wheeling and reduce the speed you have to attack the obstacles. Thank you Sir for all you share. God bless you and your family. Looking forward to the trail videos!
Watch Stan’s off-roading videos. The answer is there.
Just a bit of maintenance to keep the ol’ gal running 😂. Cannot wait to watch the progress and finished project. Sending positive vibes from Canada.
Hah! Thanks.
Great video! Want a hand turning a wrench?
Loving the little videos on getting to know Grandpa’s Jeep. I was just looking for original seats for my CJ6 in Australia and it is impossible, thanks to your video I think I can make my own seeing how simple the design is. Thanks for sharing!!
Glad you like them!
